parameter setting on the electric muscle stimulation (EMS).
Hello,
on the question of setting the right parameters in EMS is like many other things - it depends on what you want and do it even feels.
In a one study (Sportmed. Institute, University of Paderborn, Brothers Hospital St. Joseph School of Physiotherapy / Bad Lippspringe) to increase strength by EMS, it was found that the duration of play of the contraction a large role (not new):
short contractions (3 seconds) are more useful for strength and speed.
contractions of 6 seconds rather bring something for the maximum force.
contractions of over 10 seconds cause the greatest muscle mass accretion.
elsewhere might read that EMS applications at low frequency to 10 Hz for the larger effect of muscle are best.
I put myself in the parameter settings more to my mind:
My values:
frequency - 30-40 Hz
pulse width - 250 ms.
Ramp - 2 to 3
On (duration of contraction) - 8-15 seconds
Off (rest between contractions) - 5 to 10 seconds.
Sometimes I experiment and set the duration of the contraction to 30-40 seconds and work out with weights at the same time - just to shock the muscle.
So, just to try out the various parameters - provided their EMS unit has various settings.
Until next time ...
Andi.
